Watercare, GHD and Fulton Hogan are excited to once again collaborate to offer positions to Civil Engineering graduates to be part of "Project New Grad", a program started in 2005 designed to expose you what a career in the Water industry could look like across the Utilities, Consultant and Contractor sectors. The three companies have a common vision of delivering industry leading infrastructure projects which care for our environment, helping New Zealanders to have a better future.

What is Project New Grad?

Project New Grad is a three-year, fixed term development program made up of 12-month placement rotations across each organisation. Our aim is to equip you with the range of skills and experience you need for your successful career, to expose you to each of our different sectors and surround you with a network of experienced industry professionals.

The type of work you deliver will vary from placement to placement, however for all of them you will have the opportunity to make an impact on thousands of Aucklanders each day. You may find yourself working on designing water infrastructure, maintaining and improving assets across Auckland or working on site, impacting projects which improve delivery to the network.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking Civil Engineering students who are passionate about the future of Water and keen to see a broader perspective working across the project lifecycle.   We are seeking applications from those who want to realise their personal potential, while enjoying the diversity of a network of professionals, contributing to the wider community.

You should be able to demonstrate your passion through relevant experience, such as studying relevant modules, or previous work experience or internships and have the following characteristics;

  • Methodical approach to problem-solving
  • Ability to use your initiative to undertake tasks efficiently and independently
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, with the ability to liaise confidently with stakeholders and team members
  • Excellent written communication and attention to detail, and be able to demonstrate accurate technical and report writing
  • Be a team player, with the demonstrated ability to adapt to new environments.

In return, you will gain hands on experience in civil engineering, project management, developing technical and behavioural skills and qualifications for the future and career development.

If this sounds like the exciting entry to your career, and you are as passionate as we are about the Water industry, then apply today. This is a one of its kind opportunity to be part of an award winning program, so do not delay, roles are to commence February 2023.

How to apply:

  1. Select the "Apply Online" button below
  2. Please allow up to 10 minutes to complete the questions included in the application form
  3. Upload a copy of your current cover letter, CV and academic transcript/s.

The recruitment process:

We want you to have a positive experience, we do this by utilising technology to keep the process timely and easy to complete. We know you are busy, so we may use processes such as video interview (pre-recorded) and psychometric assessments (online) that you can complete at a time/place convenient for you.

If your application passes the initial shortlisting stage, then you will invited to complete one or both of these assessments within a set deadline. We will give you the instructions at the time, but as a guide, you will have approximately 5 days to complete these from when the invite is sent.

As most communication is via email, we recommend that you use an email address that you check regularly.

We expect to hold final interviews in May, with offers confirmed by late June.

Please note: GHD, WaterCare and Fulton Hogan for Health & Safety reasons, and to manage risks to both our staff and clients, will require that the successful applicants to this program be fully vaccinated.  We will ask you to declare your vaccination status through the recruitment process and prior to offer.
