Hamilton City Council makes decisions that impact the future of our city and the wellbeing of Hamiltonians every day. We do a lot to keep the city running the way it should. We provide and maintain water services, make sure waste is disposed of safely, plan and deliver for the future of our growing cityโ€ฆ and thatโ€™s just the start. The scale of what we do is massive and itโ€™s the drive and passion of our team that make it happen.

Working with Council, youโ€™ll have the chance to impact the city, embrace challenge, and grow your career as part of our high-performing team. Weโ€™re made up of more than 1200 staff spread across more than 20 sites, but weโ€™re united by a common purpose โ€“ to improve the wellbeing of Hamiltonians.

This is your opportunity to develop and grow your career and be a part of our exciting graduate programme.

This programme runs for two years with new recruits starting with Council in February 2025.

We are looking for recent graduates or students in their final year of study who are passionate, enthusiastic, and driven โ€“ ready to learn and thrive while learning the scope of the work we do here at council. We offer the opportunity to learn from the best, while developing your skills and experience when you are appointed a permanent role here in the Infrastructure Operations Group.

During your first month you will participate in a robust orientation programme that will set you up to succeed.  You will be set up with a buddy and a non-technical mentor to ensure you are well supported during the two-year programme. These roles are part of a wider Graduate programme which will give you the opportunity to stay connected with your fellow graduates across other areas of Council.

Throughout your graduate programme you will rotate between the Development, Infrastructure Operations and Strategic Assets team.  You will be surprised at the scope of work that this group undertakes, and will give you a great insight into where a career with Hamilton City Council could lead.

Making the customer feel comfortable and giving good suggestions to them if something went wrong and working along with them to correct things will make me think I am doing my role in the right way.

As a building review officer, it is a big responsibility since we are the ones who see those plans and make sure that all of the parts of the structure are compliant with the building code.
