The Monash Bachelor of Global Studies is a unique course tackling the most important challenges that the world's communities face including: climate change; peace and conflict; the rich-poor gap; and crime and justice. Global studies is an interdisciplinary field drawing on politics, economics, sociology, history, medicine and science. You will apply your knowledge and skills to real life scenarios through leadership, culture and globalisation core units; an overseas study component; and a choice of four specialisations: Cultural Competence, Human Rights, International Relations, and International Studies.

Monash's Bachelor of Global Studies can be completed on its own or combined with another discipline like commerce, science, law or technology in a double degree. Another option is to use your free electives to gain in-depth knowledge from another global studies specialisation or units from science, technology, business or arts. You can also fast track to a higher qualification with a combined Bachelor and Master's degree in just four years giving you an even greater edge in the job market.
Our "Leadership, culture and globalisation" units are offered exclusively to Bachelor of Global Studies students and are taken over all three years of the degree. You'll learn about forms of leadership and drivers of social change. You will put theory in practice through case studies covering indigeneity, mass atrocities, radicalisation, the refugee crisis, and youth in conflict. Classes are mainly workshops where you'll engage in problem-based learning and develop skills in creativity, teamwork, cross-cultural collaboration, critical thinking, self-learning and analytical writing. And the units are progressively hands-on, so by third year you will work with industry and not for profit organisations to have a positive impact in the community.
Integral to this course is international study that can be completed across a full semester or taken intensively. You could take units offered at a Monash international location, join in one of our many study tours, or study at one of our prestigious partner universities across the world. It's a requirement to take at least three international study units, but you can take more if you want. All Monash Arts degrees include the award winning Global Immersion program (GIG) - an opportunity to spend two weeks studying in China, India, Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia or The Pacific Islands, with airfares and accommodation covered as part of your degree.
Take advantage of our Global Scholars Program which offers 15 x $3000 scholarships to support extended overseas study, and is only available to Bachelor of Global Studies students. The program challenges you to engage with your international experience, to step outside and reflect on the people and culture of your chosen destination. Monash also offers you many other scholarships and grants to make it easy for you to study abroad.
Our Advisory Board is made up of international industry experts with direct links to business, social enterprise, government, international development, medicine and science. Our current Board members are: Maithri Goonetilleke (Board Chair, Associate Professor in Global Health at Monash University); Ridwaan Jadwat (Australia's Special Envoy to the OIC, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade); Oliver Percovich (Founder of Skateistan); Victor Finkel (Partner - McKinsey & Company); Asika Pelenda (Paediatrician) and Anthea Moisi (Consultant at CSIRO Futures).
All Monash students have access to a dedicated Work Integrated Learning team which will support you to find the internships that interest you and which relate to your degree and your career aspirations. In the past Bachelor of Global studies students have interned with such businesses and organisations as: Asialink (Chancellery International), Australia Africa Chamber of Commerce, British Consulate General Melbourne, Centre for Multicultural Youth, Centre for Excellence in Child and Family Welfare, and Project Respect.
Our graduates are highly competitive in the workforce and have gone on to pursue a range of careers including positions within politics and government, international development, human rights and the environmental sector, health and community services, retail, banking & financial services, and media and communications.
