Bornhorst + Ward was established in 1965 by Barney Bornhorst and Brian Ward as a consulting civil and structural engineering practice. The firm quickly built a strong foundation of engineering expertise, client commitment, industry innovation, and collaboration with industry experts. Their continued leadership fostered excellence and solidified the business as a market leader.

At Bornhorst + Ward, the belief is that engineering excellence alone does not necessarily ensure the best outcomes. The firm emphasizes the importance of focusing on real relationships—with both clients and staff—as this team collaboration creates the best opportunity to achieve success on the first attempt.

The company strives to enhance both results and the client's experience throughout the process. Relationships are central to their business philosophy, prompting significant investment in their team to ensure they remain updated with best practices and emerging technologies that add value to projects. This focus on relationships, understanding, and trust is carried through to both project execution and client interactions.

Their commitment to engineering excellence and proactive consulting has ensured that the business and the services provided remain agile, creative, and adaptive to market needs. Bornhorst + Ward’s innovative approach and high skill level, including the embrace of technology, enable them to deliver outcomes that are not only cost-effective and buildable but also contribute to creating more liveable and sustainable communities.
