FEC enjoys taking on the complex problems, and have a track record of success in delivering the greatest possible return on investment for our clients.

FEC uses advanced analysis daily, but sets itself apart from other analysts in its ability to take the results and interpret them so they can be applied to real world applications. This goes beyond producing contour plots, but to determining whether the particular part or component is fit for duty/service or whether an item is safe to use.

FEC predominantly works in the pressure equipment space including items associated with pressure equipment such as piping, tanks and structural steelwork. This area of engineering requires detailed knowledge of solid mechanics and allows employees to utilise skills and knowledge developed during university.

FEC offers a relaxed work environment with flat organisational structure. Being a small business means engaging with all fellow employees and being able to feel part of a close team. It also means opportunities to be exposed to all types of work undertaken by the company which in turn allows for the development of a wide range of experience.

Recruitment Process

The typical recruitment process involves:

  1. An applicant submits his/her CV and cover letter for consideration.
  2. FEC reviews the application and may request an academic transcript.
  3. If the applicant fits FEC's vacancy, the candidate will be requested to come in to the office for an in person interview. The in person interview is typically with 2 or 3 of the company directors.
  4. During the in-person interview, the candidate will be asked about their prior work experience (particularly experience relating to finite element analysis and its application to engineering problems), university subjects and projects completed in those subjects, visa status (if relevant), why the candidate is interested in working at FEC, what the candidate can offer as an employee and other interests. The candidate may be asked some basic engineering questions and display their knowledge of specific engineering principles through sample type exam questions comprising knowledge gained during university studies. In-person interviews can range from 30 minutes to 1 hour.
  5. FEC directors will discuss the performance of the candidate and their suitability for the role. The candidate should expect to receive a phone call or email within one week of the interview advising whether they've been successful. The candidate may be asked to come in for a second interview; however, this is not often the case.

Successful applicants and employees have the following in common:

  1. Diligence
  2. Good time management
  3. Ability to work autonomously
  4. Very strong knowledge of solid mechanics
  5. Ability to manage several tasks/project concurrently
  6. Good communication skills
  7. Amiability
