      Responsibilities:

      • Performing specific mechanical engineering duties, including design of pressure vessels to AS1210, ASME and other Codes, above ground storage tanks to API650 and AS1692, pipe stress analysis, and design of general mechanical structures.
      • Evaluating mechanical and structural systems and products by designing and carrying out research; applying principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, hydraulics, heat transfer and materials selection.
      • Undertaking plant remaining life assessments and giving repair advice. This requires application of fracture mechanics, understanding the myriad of failure mechanisms including corrosion and the broad application of API579 and/or BS7910.
      • Carrying out failure investigations and confirming the suitability of complex designs using advanced methods of analysis such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
      • Performing project management duties, including budgets, schedules and delegation of duties in conjunction with the Operations Manager and Principal Engineer.
      • Communicating with clients for all project-related issues including quote preparation, project meetings, technical document preparation and presentations.
      • Preparing engineering reports and presentations by summarising the results of analyses, explaining methodologies applied and describing results of research conducted.

The successful candidate as a minimum will hold a university degree in mechanical engineering, graduating with high academic results, a high level of technical aptitude and demonstrable experience in mechanical engineering.

The following characteristics will be sought:

      • Excellent communication and report writing skills to ensure the company continues to meet its client's expectations
      • Excellent time management skills with the capacity to manage several projects and clients at any one time
      • Advanced Understanding of statics and solid mechanics as FEC requires sound mechanical engineering knowledge for the completion of complex problems
      • Previous experience with pressure equipment, albeit not essential. FEC was founded on pressure equipment design and analysis and this continues to form a significant component of the business
      • Previous experience in finite element analysis. FEC advocates the use of advanced analysis tools where required and prides itself on its capacity to utilise these tools for the solving of complex problems

This is a highly versatile and rewarding role, with a high level of variety from day-to-day. FEC pride themselves on an open, transparent working environment without bureaucracy, ensuring all employees have the opportunity to contribute directly to the business and decision-making.

This is an ideal opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to perform end-to-end project management, allowing you to see each project from start to finish. You'll be joining a supportive, integrated team of highly skilled professionals who are passionate about their work and the engineering endeavour.

In return for your skills and expertise, you will be rewarded with a competitive remuneration, commensurate with the skills and experience that you will bring to FEC. You'll also benefit from the employee bonus system, with generous incentives regularly awarded based on levels of productivity and tenure within the business.
