Although we came from humble beginnings, we are a profitable, longstanding company undergoing continued sustainable growth. Today, we are the third largest insurance broker in New Zealand.  We have 25 branches across the country, from Whangarei down to Invercargill, over 500 staff, and 48,000 clients nationwide.

Recruitment Process

What can Graduates expect?

Join Rothbury as a Graduate and become a permanent employee from day one! Our Graduate Programme spans one year, during which you’ll rotate through three key Broking teams: Claims, Domestic Insurance Broker (also known as Personal Lines), and Commercial Broker Support. You’ll begin by shadowing an expert in each branch, and then you’ll step into the role for two months to see if it’s the right fit for you.

The primary goal of our Graduate Programme is to provide you with invaluable experience in the Broking side of our business, setting you up for a successful career. Throughout the year, you’ll receive continuous guidance, training, and exposure to various aspects of the business.

About you 

We are looking for graduates who are ready to take their first step into their career outside of University. You will have recently completed your bachelor’s degree in your chosen field and be motivated to embrace a range of learning opportunities and styles in a Graduate position. 

To apply for the Rothbury Graduate Programme  -

  • Include your Cover Letter, CV, and academic transcrip
  • On or just before the closing date, you'll receive a link from us via Talegent to complete some psychometric testing.
  • Shortlisted candidates will have a quick 5-minute phone screen with our Recruitment Partners.
  • First in-person (30mins - 1 hour) interview - you will meet with two members of the People & Culture team where you will be asked a selection of competency questions and then a general chat to get to know you (*and we will try help with some suggestions on how to improve your CV or interview techniques if you would like!)
  • Second interview - you will be invited to come into a branch, to introduce yourself and hear more from the wider team.
  • Reference checks will be completed

Applications for the 2025 Graduate Programme open in September 2024, with the intake of Graduates commencing February 2025. 

Remuneration & Career Growth

  • We currently offer a base salary of $55,000 per annum

  • During the Graduate Programme, you will be exposed to a range of opportunities in the broking business throughout your rotations, which will give you an insight into what is happening in the business and guide your decision on where you would like to work once you have completed the Graduate Programme.
  • Once your Graduate Programme has finished, we work with you to place you into a role which is aligned with your preferences.
